Third place in Expression 2016′s writing category went to Miriam
Roberts-Thomson for her piece “Coffee Bliss”
They found Emma’s almost completely by accident.
Isaiah and Lucas had been on their way to the local Starbucks to do some work when the rain started. Working in their flat was like some sort of slow torture; their hyperactive brains distracting them from even attempting when they were in the same room as their consoles. Besides, Starbucks was warm, and the coffee was decent, if overpriced, and the wifi was better than at their dorm, so…
Third place in Expression 2016′s art category went to Elliot for their comic “Don’t Look Now”
“Don’t Look Now is a short autobiographical comic I wrote/drew about my experiences as a queer & trans student at an Anglican all girls school.”
Third place in Expression 2016′s film category went to Jay Whipps for their piece “The Short Straw”
“The Short Straw is a short documentary about Josie Chambers and the work she is doing for LGBTQ+/MOGAI students, especially regarding her achievement in convincing her school to be one of the first to introduce a gender neutral uniform option.”
Second place in Expression 2016′s art category went to Winter Kneale for her piece “Ignorance”
“Pure, unapologetic trans face-ripping fury, A.K.A. everything I dream of being (However, I’m not unapologetic yet, so I’m sorry it ended up so angry and visceral xoxo)”
Second place in Expression 2016′s writing category went to Tymesha Cousins for her piece “Release Me”
Through the slits in my eyes I could see the crumpled chip bags and discarded cups of our early evening feast. Three figures lay sprawled throughout the small room, arms and legs twined together like a pair of tangled headphones. It was quiet; save for the occasional snoring of the cat.
First place in Expression 2016′s art category went to Clay Morrigan for his comic “Transition is Freedom”
“This piece is a six page comic centered around my early memories as a young trans person and how hormonal transition has started to give me the freedom to live as who I have always felt I am. I spent around a month creating this from writing the script to sketching out the designs to the final ink work and finally digitizing the piece.”
